Vimy Ridge Commemorative Oak Memorial
RMC Kingston
This project was gifted to the campus by the graduating classes of 1967 and 1973. The design called for the installation of 850+ burlap bags filled with concrete. The bags were stacked to give the site the bunker like feel synonymous with trench warfare. The centerpiece of the memorial is a ‘Vimy Oak’ – a sapling that is a direct descendant of the acorns originally sent back to Canada by Lt. Leslie Miller from Vimy Ridge in France and planted on his family farm in Scarborough.
Design Features:
- Burlap bags of concrete
- Limestone screening walkway
- Flagstone
- Site Furnishings – Plaques, Bollards, Benches, and Decorative Tree Guard
